The Topp Mountain Forest Project
Planting one tree for every customer order in 2022 - that is the goal of the Topp Mountain Forest Project. The first 1,000 trees have now been planted by our employees on suitable areas in the Schwarzwassertal valley in the Bavarian Alps.
Tree Planting by Third Parties is Often Greenwashing
Tree planting has become very popular as a sustainability project, but often dubious organisations are used. These plant the trees very cheaply, but usually without a professional concept on cheap plantation land in developing countries. Since Topp Textil attaches great importance to authentic sustainability, this was of course not a viable option. Even though it is considerably more expensive, a regional alternative was therefore searched for - and found in the mountain forest.
Strengthening the Alpine Mountain Forest
The alpine mountain forest is not only a habitat for a variety of animals and insects, but also protects against erosion and avalanches. Due to economic use, insect pests and storm damage, there is a great need for reforestation. With expert support from the local forestry authorities, particularly suitable areas were selected for reforestation and suitable tree varieties were planted for a diverse, healthy and robust mixed mountain forest: Silver fir, birch, stone pine, larch and beech.
Planting Event as Employee Activity
The trees were planted yesterday by about 25 employees. After a short hike to the planting areas, hoes and shovels were swung and the seedlings were carefully planted. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a cool beer or lemonade at the nearby Schwarzwasser-Alpe.
