Airbag Seam Tape

Especially for the automotive industry, Topp Textil developed a patented tape in January 2009, which is used and processed in various areas of the interior of cars and other motor vehicles.

The Topp®Safe Tape is supplied to a wide variety of car manufacturers worldwide. These tapes are used in all areas where airbags are installed in the interior behind seam constructions. For example, in seats, steering wheels, door panels and instrument panels.

The airbag seam tapes are made of different qualities such as cotton, polyester or polyamide fabrics up to fleeces made of different synthetic fibres. Depending on the requirement profile, different thermoplastics are laminated onto the Topp®Safe tapes to ensure that the seam is sealed and fixed. The special feature of the tapes is that they have both the properties of seam reinforcement tapes (safety tapes or reinforcement tapes) and seam sealing tapes as well as the airbag functions via a defined predetermined breaking point.

For better processing, the airbag seam tapes can be provided with different elasticities. For example, tight radii on side airbags of seats can be reproduced without creases and can additionally guarantee the stability of the sewing garment with a thermoplastic coating.
